Hello all! This is all of the information you may need to audition for Longhorn Singers Fall '09!
Auditions for the fall semester will be held on Tuesday August 25: 9 am-12:30, 2:30-3, and 4-6:30 (the last time slot can go longer if need be) and on Wednesday August 26: 9am-12 and 2-6. Please email utlonghornsingers@gmail.com to set up your 10 minute audition time.
If Tim (our director) invites you back for the dance call back that will be held at 8 pm on Wednesday August 26 in the main choir room as of right now. And if and when you make it into Longhorn Singers our first class day is Thursday.
To audition: You will need to prepare 30 seconds of a pop/broadway song. Make sure it shows off your voice well. Tim will also ask you to do some rhythm exercises and some sight singing (he'll give you a starting note so breathe easy if you've never done sight singing before.) These auditions will be held in MRH 2.116B which is the "choral and orchestral ensemble office. The dance callback consists of our choreographer teaching 2 routines and then all of the auditioners will perform the dances for Tim and the rest of us as we cheer you on :)
My advice: during your singing audition, be very outgoing and personable. We're a very close group and Tim wants people who will blend well with us as well as good singers/dancers. And just go for it. If you mess up, mess up with style. For the dance auditions, trust me not everyone in Longhorn Singers is going to make it into the American Ballet Company or anything. Just smile and go for it! Ham it up!
Longhorn singers is also a class. You get an hour of credit for it and you need to sign up. So if you are chosen to be in Longhorn Singers, please please please remember to sign up for ENS 109P. We meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5:30 and on Sunday evenings from 5-8 for choreography rehearsal. Attendance is required.
Lastly, if you plan to audition, join our Facebook group: Audition for Longhorn Singers Fall 2009 so we can get to know your pretty faces before you audition! I'm very excited about this semester! And break a leg to everyone!
